These yoga holidays are based at the former Hotel Astrikas which is now a dedicated yoga centre with both an indoor and an outdoor yoga space, a swimming pool and great scenery It is situated in a very small village set in typical Cretan rural landscape well away from other tourists. We eat our meals at the local taverna - one minutes walk away - which is used to providing delicious vegetarian food (and fish on request) for yoga students. The lovely unspoilt beach, pictured above, is reached via a long and easy downhill walk through the olive groves, or by taxi. |

The programme will vary slightly from one teacher to another but a typical day will begin with around two hours yoga practice in the morning. This will be followed by a delicious vegetarian breakfast/brunch. The second yoga class of the day will take place in the late afternoon and is usually half an hour shorter in length. Following this yoga class the participants meet up again to eat dinner, relax and chat. During the day snacks and fruit will be left out in the downstairs kitchen area where you may also help yourself to teas and coffee.
For all yoga holidays we provide:
Yoga mats |

Sunbathe by the pool, go down to the beach, explore the surrounding countryside or just hang-out in a quiet spot with a book. This is rural Crete and a great opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life. Massages and treatments will be available Other things you can do : Scuba diving (school in Kastelli), boat trip – Balos Bay, day in historic Chania (shopping), Samaria Gorge walk – May to October, or visit the local (and famous) Astrikas Estate where the best organic olive oil on the island is produced and is very close to where we are staying. Aromatherapy Massage, Lymphatic Drainage massage and Kinesiology treatment are also available
Two optional guided walks are included in your holiday: One down through the olive groves, to the beach at Mithimna and snorkel rocks The second suggested walk will be from Kaliviani to Falasarna for teachers who wish to do beach yoga in their week, otherwise we can take another optional walk such as the Deliana Gorge. Taxis involved in beach yoga or other walks are not included in the price. There is masses of unspoilt countryside on this side of the island covering a wide variety of terrain from rocky mountainsides rich with herbs and other plant life to beautiful sandy or stony beaches and local places of interest. Walks are generally two to three hours in length, not strenuous, and give you a real flavour of the area. They usually end in one of the many hospitable tavernas.
If you intend to walk please bring shoes with a good tread and heel support and - if you have them - binoculars for spotting the griffin vultures |

Accommodation Astrikas Guest House is used exclusively by our yoga groups and has no other guests, in fact we are the only tourists in the village. It has 12 en-suite rooms, each with private balcony. Rooms are twin bedded or double bedded and most have air conditioning. There are eight air conditioned rooms, mainly twin bedded, on the top floor and four double bedded rooms on the floor below. They are all en-suite with shower and each has a private balcony. Each floor has a fridge for guests and snacks can be made in the garden level kitchen where we have teas, coffee, fruit and titbits left in the fridge for your use. The water in the tap in the kitchen is drinking water avoiding the need to purchase bottled water. The yoga hotel is set in its own grounds including swimming pool, lawns and shady trees. There's plenty of local walks and the hotel is surrounded by beautiful hills with view of more distant mountains. Astrikas village is quiet and welcoming and you will feel you are amongst friends.
