Yoga Holidays from Free Spirirt Travel

Yoga and sunshine, by the sea in Turkey

Here most of the programmes are a combination of Yoga, walking, and meditation.

There is ample spare time for your own exploration and relaxation.

As soon as you get off the plane the pristine air from the hills and valleys, spiked with wild thyme and pine will hit your nostrils. Take a deep, pure breath of the Golkoy breezes and your stress begins to fall away. Golkoy is an old fishing village at the foot of Karadag Mountain in a valley of olive, citrus and fig trees.

This fertile land rests on the slopes of pine-clad hills dotted with little white houses and splashes of bougainvillea. There is a tiny lake and an equally tiny but exquisite palm wood at the back of the village - the only vestige of its past as wet lands.

Traditional life is still intact. Most villagers keep their cows to make their own milk and yogurt. You might meet them grazing as you walk towards our house. This is a village loved by many Turks who have made their second homes there amidst its mandarin orchards.

At the far end of the village there are shady tea-gardens, sun-bathing decks, bars and restaurants where people spend the day sunning, socializing, swimming and playing backgammon. From there the beach stretches half a mile along the bay, sometimes sandy, sometimes pebbly, always safe. It is dotted with small family hotels, shady palms and fir trees - most of our visitors stay here on the seaside.

Vegetarian Guesthouse in Golkoy

To reach our house and the practice terraces under olive and carob trees you will walk on the beach and follow a meandering road below the hills for 20 minutes up to our garden.

A brand new road has now been opened through the fields in front of the house. Just as you see the stone wall we are there.

Beyond our house the woods stretch to further bays and over the surrounding hills. In the evening after dinner, the walk from our house under the countless stars back to the beach is another surprising refreshment

Food

Turkish people are passionate about food, it is not considered as mere ‘fuel’. It is entwined with the joys and cycles of a well-lived life. Food is about connecting with nature’s rhythm, savouring and celebrating life and sharing it with others.

Our cook brings tender vine leaves and courgette flowers picked from her own garden to be stuffed with pine nuts, dill, fruit, cinnamon and rice to make ‘dolma’.

Meals are mainly vegetarian cooked with cold-pressed olive oil from our own trees and flavoured with basil, mint and parsley from our garden. Cooking is traditional Mediterranean and Middle Eastern with the best seasonal ingredients from local market. Although vegetarian, sometimes we add some chicken or fish to the menu.

Accommodation:

During courses, participants stay in a seaside hotel in the village and have their breakfast there.

Accommodation is usually at Ece Resort Hotel in Golkoy (picture left), occasionally we will use the Mandalya or Babana hotelsl.

All other meals will be served at our centre except for 2 evening meals a week when our guests visit Bodrum or sample delicious local cuisine in the seaside.
