Brigitte has been practising yoga for 24 years and teaching for 9 years. She has experience in, Hatha yoga, Astanga yoga and Vinyasa Prana Flow yoga. In 2004 she was introduced to Anusara Yoga. Her first Anusara teacher training course had a transformational effect on her attitude towards life and literally transformed her Yoga practice opening her body, heart and mind consequently deepening her understanding of 'Yoga'. Her practice and teaching continues to pour knowledge into her life as she draws inspiration from her students as well as her teachers and she feels honoured to be able to share this passion with others. Brigitte believes that physical practice is about feeling the energy in each posture internally and to let this prana flow unobstructed within our bodies so that we feel a sense of freedom from both physical and emotional tension. The breath is the music and our body dances to it as she links creative, dynamic and at times challenging flow sequences. A strong focus is placed on postural alignment so that each student finds his or her unique optimal body blueprint moving towards a more vibrant, lighter, stronger, flexible, confident body and cultivating more love along the way. Her teaching also incorporates Restorative Yoga, Therapeutic Yoga, Pranayama, Mudras, Relaxation, Yoga Nidra and Meditation. Anusara Yoga is uplifting and fun, Brigitte welcomes and invites students of to be open to all possibilities, to embrace and expand their experience of yoga and life. This yoga week is not suitable for beginners - please chat to us in the office if you have questions |

Susannah is a fully qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher and has been practising yoga since childhood. Her teaching style is intuitive and creative, drawing on her main influences of Hatha Yoga, Viniyoga and Astanga Yoga. Her dance background also brings into play a focus on alignment.
For Susannah yoga is about breath and bringing a sense of space and freedom to the body. She teaches Hatha Yoga, inspired by the Viniyoga System with its one-to-one approach, with an emphasis on connecting the breath and movement, enabling her students to work with their bodies, get to know them and to take responsibility for their personal well-being. She applies this approach to all her classes where she ensures that adjustments and modifications are made for individual students - after all every body is different Susannah studied yoga as a child and grew up within the yogic philosophy. |

Relax, rejuvenate and unwind the body and mind with Emma with seven days of pure Yoga bliss in the Turkish Sun! Mornings begin with an energising Vinyasa Yoga practice followed by breakfast/brunch. Retreaters will then have the rest of day to spend sightseeing, shopping, or simply relaxing poolside. In the late afternoon there will be a Hatha Yoga class to unwind before dinnertime. Emma fell in love with Yoga in her late teens and has since studied under the expertise of Louise Solomon at the Yoga Pilates Academy Australia, Yogi Vishvektu at the World Conscious Yoga Family in India and Edward Clark at the Tripsichore Yoga Company London. She has been teaching Vinyasa and Hatha Yoga full time since 2008 and continues her studies in Yoga Asana, Philosophy and Anatomy. Taking inspiration from many forms of Yoga, Emma’s classes are eclectic, in-depth and playful. She loves experimenting with sequencing, fusion, transitions and breaking down technical postures so they can be approached in a safe yet enjoyable way. Emma believes
that Yoga should be an uplifting experience – when in doubt smile and breathe!

Inspired mainly by the Astanga and Iyengar traditions, Justine has had a dedicated Yoga practice since 1999, and excelled in her formal BWY-accredited teacher training at triyoga in London, a leading centre in the UK, where she is currently an Assistant Teacher on the 2009 teacher-training intake. She is based in Sussex where she teaches weekly classes in the local community. Justine teaches both dynamic flow- inspired sequences as well as more Hatha based explorative classes. She combines a passion for safe, clear alignment instruction, enabling students to deepen their understanding of the poses and their bodies, with a constant focus on integrating movement with the breath, using the breath to guide and create change. With students of varying experience in each class, she aims to support and challenge all students to find their edge, but with a light-hearted approach and emphasis on yoga being an enjoyable and rewarding practice that we keep coming back to. Justine sets the asana practice firmly within the wider intention of creating space and a sense of freedom and possibility, not just in the physical body but in all aspects of life. She sees yoga practice as an antidote to the perfectionism and endless striving of modern living, an invaluable tool to develop a healthier, broader perspective, and a sustaining sense of wellbeing and equilibrium.
A week of continuous practice is a great opportunity to take a leap forward and gather inspiration to take home with you. Morning sessions will be more flowing to get the energy moving, based a round a varying theme of poses, afternoons will be a combination of some asana ‘workshops’ and more restorative, rejuvenating practices. Each student within this small group will have personal guidance and appropriate instruction and modifications to get the most out of their yoga practice, whatever their starting point. Justine aims for everyone to end the week feeling totally rejuvenated, with greater clarity and confidence in their yoga practice and inspired to do more! Justine also has a particular interest in yoga philosophy and the background history to modern yoga practice, and would be happy to include some talks on this if students were interested. Jude has been practising yoga and meditation for over sixteen years and has been teaching for eleven years. Over the years she has worked with, been inspired and influenced by many wonderful teachers whose knowledge and teachings have enriched her practice - Erich Schiffman, Sharon Gannon and David Life, Shiva Rea and, currently, Sarah Powers. She completed a
Teacher Training Course with the Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga) under
the direction of Swami Vedantananda and assessed by Swami Pragyamurti, the
Principal of the School. This course is recognised by and is accredited with the
British Wheel of Yoga.
The yoga Jude teaches is a mix of the Yin style (focusing on the gently held postures that work on the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine) and the stronger Yang practise that emphasizes muscular movement and contraction. The combining of the two helps to create a balanced practice "on the mat" which can be helpful in balancing our life "off the mat". There is much emphasis on the flow of the breath and how we allow the breath to be the initiator for the movement of the body. The sessions also include pranayama, relaxation and visualisation practices plus nada yoga and meditation. |

Patricia has been involved in yoga since the '60s and teaching since the '90s. Her background includes Iyengar, British Wheel of Yoga and Sivananda teachers. She obtained her Yoga Diploma in India at the Sivananda Yoga Vedanta Ashram in Kerala. Her style has evolved into a gentle, hands on approach, helping each student to reach their own potential at their own comfortable pace.
Suitable for students with or without experience, particularly more
mature bodies who soon find that stiff or problem joints respond to
this gentle approach. There is always an element of fun in her
classes keeping everybody relaxed yet focused. Morning classes usually consist of flowing asanas with attention to breathing, together with partner work. The late afternoon classes focus more on restorative postures with breathing, meditation and inner awareness techniques. Always followed by a long relaxation. www.patriciahaygarthyoga.com

range of motion, improve flexibility and rediscover the natural capacity

Ginny has experience in many of the forms of yoga which have developed from the students of T. Krishnamacharya, the teacher of B.K.S. Iyengar, K. Pattabhi Jois and T.K.V. Desikachar. She has been
actively involved with fitness training and bodywork for many years, originally
learning with Derek Ireland and returning to yoga in 1992 She has studied at the
Astanga Research Institute in Mysore and at the Krishnamacharya Yoga Mandiram,
Chennai, India. Our morning session will consist of a led Vinyasa Flow class taught in a workshop style so that different aspects of the practice can be explored in different sessions, thus ensuring all students, will gain from the sessions irrespective of their experience. The afternoon session will be less structured and the style taught will be that which Ginny is developing from her own practice which has been much influenced by the work of the late Vanda Scaravelli. In this yoga we work in a relaxing and energising way to enable the body to function naturally and happily using gravity and grounding, the breath and the subtle movement of the wave of the spine. Whilst suitable for all levels of experienced yoga practitioners this holiday is most suited to intermediate and advanced students, less experienced yoga students are also welcomed and should be prepared to work hard. This holiday is not suitable for complete beginners *** Jilly in the Free Spirit office attends Ginny's weekly classes in Brighton so if you have questions do chat with her *** |

Marc Woolford's unusual but deeply effective approach to yoga is founded on the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli. Time is given to exploring the relationships between the forces of gravity operating through the body and the action of the breath. The postures can then develop from these relationships with a glorious sense of expanding out from the core of the body - 'undoing' and elongating the spine. Surprisingly challenging but suitable for all. Marc has been dedicated to this approach to yoga since 1994, working exclusively with other Scaravelli inspired teachers such as Pete Blackaby, John Stirk, Diane Long and Sophy Hoare and runs regular workshops and weekends around the UK as well as in India, France and the States. He is known for his infectious enthusiasm for the work, and through his deep understanding of the nature of movement, has developed a reputation for helping transform people's practise. He is also very clear that yoga practise is a very personal journey, and is keen to make sure that everyone feels free to work at their own level and pace.
