Your world of stress disappears when you get off at "Lagoona Davina"

A small exclusive Guest House in the South Indian state of Kerala.

Nestling on a freshwater lagoon, it looks across to the white sands of the Indian Ocean. Set in a simple village in a coconut grove, miles from tourists and noisy traffic, you will be in a haven of peace, natural beauty and sublime views, all bathed in pure tropical air - the perfect hide away in an entirely ecological environment.

At Lagoona Davina British owner, Davina Taylor Phillips, her manager and her staff all delight in thoroughly spoiling you, as if in a private house.

This is a boutique hotel which also offers yoga, it makes a wonderful 'add-on' for yoga students coming from the Kailasam Yoga Centre in Kovalam and you can stay for any amount of time from a couple of days upwards. It is also a great hide-away for couples or stressed executives who need some time to themselves combined with some serious pampering.

For those of you who need to keep in touch with the outside world, fax, email and computer service is available and a TV is discretely hidden away.

Swimming is delightful and safe in the Lagoon, except for on a few rare days, or you can take refreshing dips in the swimming pool. For strong swimmers and surfers the open sea is rough and invigorating.

Kerala is one of the most sought-after tourist destinations in Asia, it is one of the most developed states in India, with a comfortable climate and good services and connections.

Yoga, Massage and Ayurvedic Medicine:  fully qualified practitioners are available on request.

Approximately £9  for your own private session.

Your day:

On arrival tired muscles can be unravelled by a massage under the blue sky by our own specialist, while your room boy scales a tree for your first coconut, or serves you a cocktail by the pool.

Later on the terrace, or in the garden, you will drift through the day watching the most beautiful birds, the fishermen pass by, the sea breaking on the sands of the Indian Ocean and breathtaking sunsets; whilst listening to the gentle bird song and the lap of the lagoon, napping with your book and thoughts.

Backwater trips on the rivers, which run into the Lagoon, transport you to the beauty and simplicity of village life, this is coupled with evenings of traditional music and dancing performed by local children. Here you can walk on the beach past villages and watch coir being made on Gandhi style spinning wheels.

Close to ancient temples, palaces, ashrams, a waterfall, wild life sanctuaries and fishing - long beaches with nobody but fishermen for company.

Should you not wish to move, there is an excellent small library, cards, chess, drafts and scrabble, and a boutique to browse.
