A purpose-built mountain retreat
where you can really relax

Purpose Built En-Suite Single Rooms

A mountain retreat east of Malaga, surrounded on three sides by spectacular mountains, with fantastic views south to Lake Viñuela and the coast beyond.  This is an especially lovely venue for those of you who like a room to themselves, these are available at no extra cost.

This venue is open throughout the year with visiting yoga teachers from June - September.

This is a delightful retreat is situated in a tiny hamlet, high in the mountains above Malaga and thirty minutes from the coast by car. Perfect for walking, the local scenery is stunning - take Donna the owners dogs with you!

There are four mountain bikes for exploring the quiet roads and surrounding countryside, or visiting the next village.

Alternatively take your bike to the old railway line behind the retreat and cycle along it and across the hills, through fields of olive and almond trees and past picturesque old farmhouses.

Sunbathing takes place by the oval pool, with its mosaic lining depicting leaping dolphins; the relaxation area surrounding it is a natural sun trap.

Lay on the sun-beds with a book and look down through the olive groves to the lake below you and, far in the distance, glimpse the glittering sea, on a clear day you can see Africa.

Although this retreat appears to be totally cut off from the outside world this is not the case, close by is a local bar (pictured below) with coffee, drinks and snacks. A short bicycle ride away is a small village with several cafes and shops. Tennis courts are close by.

A half an hour taxi ride away are stables where horses can be hired and a local guide provided to show you some of the more out of the way places.

Hot Springs, sailing, trips to the beach, and a round of golf at a brand new golf course, can all be provided by your hosts. Massage is also available.

The Yoga

Morning yoga usually takes place on a purpose built tiled area, built up on the the hill behind the centre. Surrounded by olive and almond trees, and shaded from the morning sun, the scent of the trees and plants will make these sessions even more special.

There is also the option of using the cool indoor room and this is often used for the afternoon class, occasionally the class is taken by the pool or on the terrace - the options are ours to decide.

The holiday:

This retreat provides quiet comfortable breaks where you cannot help but relax.

Due to its climate it is open all year round. The altitude of 2200' moderates the seasonal weather. In the summer the temperature is typically in the high 20's C, rising to the low 30's C in August, cooled by the mountain breezes.

The holiday includes bed, breakfast and a vegetarian evening meal with a Spanish or Thai influence. One night is dedicated to a trip to a local restaurant where you can buy a Spanish meal for a modest price.

An introductory walk to familiarize you with the area is included and there are four bikes available for your use at any time, as well as plenty of advice on the best paths and trails to try.

The retreat is relatively isolated and car hire is recommended if you wish to explore the region. There is a bar in the dining room and also one in the small hamlet at the bottom of the driveway.

There are no shops or villages within close walking. The nearest  village is Periana, 4 kms away down the mountain -  here you will find a variety of shops, cafes and a restaurant. For those of you who do choose to walk down to the village the owners of Montana Palmera will always do their best to come and collect you, enabling you to avoid the return journey up the mountainside!

Rooms and prices

There are nine rooms in three blocks, each with their own en-suite facilities. There are six singles and three that can be used as doubles or singles.

This venue is relaxing, comfortable and personal and reflects the care that has been taken to make you feel at home.
