Unspoilt West Crete with its beautiful countryside, olive trees, mountain peaks and quiet beaches

Two 'sister' venues organized by Juliet and David, the owners of West Crete Holidays.

Some of our yoga weeks take place at the Hotel Peli on the edge of Kastelli, whilst others take place at Mithimna Beach. Both venues are close to the sea which is shallow and perfect for swimming.

Your day:

The programme will vary slightly from one teacher to another but a typical day will begin with around two hours yoga practice in the morning followed by a delicious vegetarian brunch.

You then have free time  to explore the area, take advantage of the massages and health treatments West Crete Holidays offer as optional extras, spend time on the beach, or simply enjoy the company of like-minded people.

The second yoga class of the day will take place in the late afternoon and is usually half an hour shorter in length.

After this yoga class the participants meet up again to eat, relax and chat at one of the local tavernas.

Blocks, mats, and belts are provided .

On most of our yoga holidays optional guided walks in the unspoilt countryside of this side of the island are also offered.

These cover a wide variety of terrain from rocky mountainsides rich with herbs and other plant life to beautiful sandy or stony beaches and also take in local places of interest.

Walks are generally two to three hours in length, not strenuous, and give you a real flavour of the area. They usually end in one of the many hospitable tavernas.

If you intend to walk please bring shoes with a good tread and heel support.

Location: We are situated at the western end of Crete, which is much less developed for the holiday-maker than the areas towards the other end of the island.

Group holidays are held in three venues within the rural bay area of Kissamos which has outstanding long and quiet beaches with excellent swimming.

Accommodation at Mithimna and the Hotel Peli on the outskirts of Kastelli, both are only a few minutes walk from the sea

About our yoga venues and accommodation:

• Mithimna is a small seaside village. The area is rural and the setting quite intimate, with activities by the beach. Accommodation at Mithimna is based around Mousses Apartments and Studios.  These have cooking facilities and are in well kept gardens and views of the sea and mountains just two minutes walk from the beach

• Peli Hotel with pool, is on the edge of Kastelli by the Mavros Molos Beach. This venue suits people who want to be able to easily to get into town for shopping and whom prefer an hotel environment. These are en suite rooms, with balconies or garden area and we have also provided an area within the hotel where you can make your own hot drinks and have fridge access.

The yoga space is in a separate purpose built room in the hotel garden.

We have carefully chosen the venues over a period of years for their friendliness and suitability for yoga holidays so at any venue the level of retreat feeling can be your choice. We must, however, reserve the right to alter the venue if numbers of participants would make a venue inappropriate – with the teacher’s approval, or if unforeseen circumstances would make the venue unsuitable.’
