MILELIA CENTRE, MOLYVOS, LESBOS

come for one week or longer

Come to Lesbos in May, when all the flowers are in bloom and the island is green and warm. The Centre "Milelja" is purpose built and is situated on the hillside overlooking the Mediterranean - a short walk from the ancient village of Molyvos. A truly magical island, where you can swim in the warm sea or dip into the nearby hot spring pools.

Hill walks will be given at the weekends, the views from the hills are panoramic and there are many archaeological sites and monasteries to visit.

There are two large, light and airy rooms available here in which to practice. Both provide wooden floors, meditation cushions and mats. Our Garden Hall is 100 sqm and is below the main house. The Mandala Hall, erected in pagoda style, is rounded and larger at 115 sqm of usable space with incredible views of the village .

The Course Leaders

Ruth and John White will be leading this special Yoga Holiday: Iyengar teachers with very many years experience, their sessions are renowned for clarity and precision. They are adept at working with all levels of practitioner and adjusting the teaching to the ever changing needs of the students.

The Milelja Guesthouse provides an intimate atmosphere for workshops, with sweeping views of the village and sea. Old trees and the natural stone building, carefully fitted into the landscape, form the special character. Built along ecological guidelines, Milelja is perfect for groups.

Located on the Greek isle of Lesvos in the eastern Aegean, seven miles off the Turkish mainland. Lesvos is the third largest, and one of the ‘green’ islands of Greece. Covered in olive groves and vast pine woods, legend says this is where music first came to man. Poetry, songs and dances still play an important role in Greek life today.

It is our main aim to make our guests feel at home and comfortable. Guests are given an overview of the amenities on offer in and around Molyvos - which include hiking, excursions ,boat trips, horse riding and cultural visits to museums and ancient sites.

We can also organize transportation to and from the airport, and offer advice on car and bike rental.
Bed linen and towels are provided and rooms cleaned twice a week.

Kitchen: we serve a rich breakfast on a shady terrace overlooking Molyvos and the sea. In colder seasons we use our breakfast room. Self-service facilities are provided for teas and coffee as well as small snacks.

Milelja is just a 15 minute walk from the sea and the village of Molyvos (Mithimna in the old Greek).

The village is architecturally protected due to its historical importance as an ancient seaport dating from before the fall of Troy and the magnificent Venetian castle that sits above.

A walk through the Agora ( market ) - roofed by flowerarcades - down to the picturesque port, is an expedition through the eventful history of the island.

But Molyvos is not only about the past. Today , one can enjoy bathing beaches cafes, restaurants and shops, which give the ideal background for a relaxing holiday

The volcanic origin of the island left a specially precious heritage: hot mineral springs (picture right)

These have already been appreciated by the Romans. The Turks built their "Hamams" at these places. A few kilometres from Molyvos one of these ancient bath houses is located near Eftalou. The healing capacities of this spring is medically evident.
