Hatha Yoga with Susannah Hoffman

Susannah is a fully qualified British Wheel of Yoga teacher and has been practising yoga since childhood.

Her teaching style is intuitive and creative, drawing on her main influences of Hatha Yoga, Viniyoga and Astanga Yoga. Her dance background also brings into play a focus on alignment.

Susannah’s classes have a meditative quality and work on the principles of ‘Sthira and Sukham’ - (form and experience, strength and softness). So although her classes can be quite demanding they are also deeply relaxing. Her years of dancing have given Susannah an invaluable knowledge of the body, which enhances her ability to teach yoga. In addition she has studied both holistic massage and herbalism - and therefore has a very broad and balanced view of the body.

For Susannah yoga is about breath and bringing a sense of space and freedom to the body. She teaches Hatha Yoga, inspired by the Viniyoga System with its one-to-one approach, with an emphasis on connecting the breath and movement, enabling her students to work with their bodies, get to know them and to take responsibility for their personal well-being.

She applies this approach to all her classes where she ensures that adjustments and modifications are made for individual students - after all every body is different

Susannah studied yoga as a child and grew up within the yogic philosophy.

Power Vinyasa Yoga with Babs Lehner-Platts

Power Vinyasa, which means breath-synchronized movement, is a more vigorous style of Yoga based on the performance of a sequence of poses such as Sun Salutations, in which movement is matched to the breath.

This class is led by renowned yoga instructor and fitness expert Babs Lehner-Platts. With her characteristic down-to-earth instruction and fun approach, you will be guided through a series of yoga postures that are physically challenging, yet can be done by the average participant! The easy-to-follow sequences practised with energy and enthusiasm, will produce amazing results!

Babs encourages you with clear instructions for each posture, giving detailed explanations and corrections on correct alignment throughout. The class is designed for any age or fitness level and make it the perfect program from the beginner to the more experienced student.

A Power Vinyasa class will typically start with Pranayama (breath control), then goes into flowing sequences of standing postures. This is followed by practicing Yoga Balances leading into mat work, which brings the focus to core stability to increase stamina, flexibility and energy levels. Deep stretches and relaxation will bring the class to an end.

Class contents vary from one session to the next to prevent complacency and to give the student constant challenges and goals to strive for. Whilst we believe that Yoga classes should always be fun, Babs encourages every student to remain mindfully focused on themselves and to explore not only their strengths but also the limitations of their body and mind.

Dynamic Hatha Yoga with Stephan Coburg

Stephan became a teacher because of his passion for tai chi and yoga and to try to communicate that Yoga is more than just a system of exercise, but also as a spiritual practice, which is self –empowering and autonomous. He teaches in a way, which allows his students to develop at their own pace and encourages them to “feel the fear and do it anyway”.

With a martial arts background by his first teacher, his father at the age of 8, Stephan developed the styles of Kung Fu and Wu Shu to an advanced level. At the age of 16, Stephan was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer and under the tutelage of his uncle Master Huang JiFu (1934-1995) Vice Chairman of the British Council for Chinese Martial Arts, and founder of the British Chin Woo Athletic Association, he was taught Tai Chi and Chi Gong as a compliment to his chemotherapy and ultimately his recovery.

It was during this time using TCM in combination to his chemotherapy, taught to him by his grandmother, that Stephan discovered yoga and it’s healing effects towards cancer and how yoga also complimented his knowledge in Tai Chi and Chi Gong.

A few years later, Stephan met his Guruji, Master Tenzin Kendra Rinpoche, during a trip to Nepal, and became his disciple for 11 ½ years until his teacher’s death in April 2002.  During this period he was taught concepts and philosophies on the traditional Hatha style of yoga, Kundalini Yoga, Seamm Jasani or ‘gentle boabom’ the ‘Art of Self Medicine through Self-Defense’, Tibetan Medicine, Shamanic Healing and Energetic Medicine.

Stephan’s sadhana then led him towards many teachers around the world, who have all contributed to his unique style of teaching. He continues with his studies of the yoga system as taught by his Guruji, but over the years has been influenced and taught by other teachers including Swami Pragyamurti, in the tradition of the Bihar School of Yoga and Swami Satyananda, Sri K Pattabhi Jois in the astanga vinyasa tradition, Mysore, Gurmukh Kaur Khalsa in the Kundalini tradition, California, Gingi Lee at the Sangam Yoga Centre in the astanga Mysore style and Gary Carter of Natural Bodies in the Scaravelli tradition, Stephan’s ethic is that he is the eternal student.

Stephan has been teaching since 1996, and is the Principal at The Radiant Hand, in health clubs and yoga centres in London and internationally. He also teaches at retreats in Dahab, Sinai, Egypt, Dalyan in Turkey, Cornwall in the UK and in Thailand and Malaysia in the Far East. He has recently returned from Bhutan having been requested to teach and train at an international luxury resort.

He has given lectures on healing and vibrational medicine, and works also as a spiritual guidance therapist and healer of various traditions, including Tibetan Shamanic Healing, Pranic Healing, he is a Master Teacher in the Usui tradition and system of Reiki and is a practitioner of massage in acupressure, holistic, sports, Taoist/ Tantra bodywork and the Nuad Boran Northern Style Thai Yogic Massage.

When he is not working you will find him climbing the Himalayas in Nepal, white-water rafting in South America, trekking the jungles of Borneo, or in London with his family.

2011: December 4th - 11th - 18th

These weeks will be taught by Jana Czipin (see details about her yoga below).

We are excepting numbers to be small so if there are 4 or less people instead of 10 classes over the week there will be 5 intensive classes and a public class which Jana teaches weekly to the Dahab residents and which you will be invited to join. The week will run even if only one person books and will operate as normal.

We are fairly  confident that numbers will be larger than the 4 minimum - especially as Dahab is the perfect place to do your Christmas shopping!

The sun will be shinning and Jana is a wonderful teacher.

Flowing Hatha Yoga with Shira Bassi

Shira originally trained as a Sivananda yoga teacher in 2002 and has since expanded her knowledge to include Astanga yoga, Power yoga and Shadow yoga. She has also studied and practised meditation for over 11 years.

Shira has created a heart yoga practice which incorporates psychological tools from NLP, Hypnotherapy. Coaching into the body an awareness so as to shift each person to a self-loving body, whatever their own physical or mental constraint.

All of this is weaved seamlessly into the second half of special yoga sessions. We will do this special session twice during the week On other days our morning session will be a more active flowing yoga class, beginning with surya namaskar warm ups and pranayama as we move with breath in and out of the asanas.

The afternoon classes will be quieter and more meditative. The aim is to move away from time and space and transcend to bliss so one is not constrained, tapping into the centre of oneself, so that the body is the moving flow and the mind eases

As well as the yoga classes there will also be options of 1-to-1 classes and of having a life plan for 2012 created.

"Once a person is in a yoga state, the mind is opened up to receive positive, compassion, joy, happiness, acceptance, letting go of emotions etc.  Its about having a peaceful, quiet mind in the yoga practice, with no conflict in the posture.

I am the catalyst for another person being 100% committed to their lives, this passion comes through in my yoga. I am not just another yoga teacher, it is very much who I am a yogini." Shira Bassi

2012: January 15th - 22nd

Hatha Yoga with Julie Potter
Julie came to yoga in 1993 as what was then a weekly interlude from an over busy work and family life. By 2000 this had become more of a passion and she was persuaded by her own tutors to train as a teacher. She qualified with the BWY in 2004, and quickly developed into having a teaching week of 15-18 classes. Judith has her own studio, Yoga for Harmony in Windsor, which she established in 2006.

With early origins in Iyengar Yoga, Julie has experienced a wide range of teachers and yoga ‘styles’, but now has her personal interest in anatomical movement and alignment. Her main influences are teachers such as Gary Carter, Peter Blackaby, Monica Voss, Angela Farmer.

Julie’s intention for the week in Egypt is for students to have the opportunity and the time to look at aspects of their practise in depth and to develop their approach of self enquiry and self knowledge.

The classes are adaptable and encompass students of all levels of experience and ability. Whilst looking at traditional Hatha Yoga postures and pranayama Julie will be encouraging fun and freedom within the traditional structure.

Dynamic Flow teaches synchronisation of breath and movement creating freedom and enjoyment"

Hatha Yoga with Emma Burton

Emma Burton has been a keen practitioner of yoga for the past eight years.

She completed her basic and intermediate teacher training in New York City with the Integral Yoga Institute and now practices as a Registered Yoga Teacher under the Yoga Alliance.

Emma's approach is rooted in the style of Hatha yoga combining physical poses (asana), breathing practice (pranayama), deep relaxation (yoga nidra) and meditation.

Her aim is to allow the holistic practice of yoga to heal and invigorate the entire body on a cellular level, to encourage full and efficient breath work, and to centre the mind.

Emma encourages a non-competitive approach in which individuals can safely challenge their physical and emotional edges to deepen their practice.

Within this space her students can connect to their uniquely wonderful bodies and the inner wisdom of the breath, whilst challenging the mind to stay present and grounded.

Flowing Hatha Yoga with Tristram and Yvonne Carlyon
We believe yoga to be a science, a healing art, and a spiritual practice. Our teaching is adapted to meet individual needs, in the tradition of T. Krishnamacharaya. We honour yoga's ancient traditions and embrace pluralist values.

We work with playful warm-up exercises derived from Qigong, classical yoga asanas, and deeply restorative yin postures to nurture our physical and energetic bodies. We explore some powerful breathing practices (pranayama), and move into profound and healing stillness in guided relaxation and meditation.

As blockages are gently released, the potential arises for renewal and coming home to our true selves. Everyone receives individual attention and is offered appropriate modifications to help them get the maximum benefit and enjoyment from the practice.

Hatha Yoga with Jackie Coulson

Jackie has studied many forms of Yoga over the last 12 years, including Hatha, Iyengar, Vajrasati, Astanga, Sivananda & Scaravelli.

She holds teaching certificates in Hatha and Vajrasati Yoga and is Yoga Alliance 500hr accredited. She has taken great joy from inspiring her students in Brighton for the last 4 years. Jackie's teaching style is creative and fluid, partly due to her broad inspiration across disciplines.

Her Vajrasati training helps bring in a meditative feel to her Hatha flowing practise, incorporating the core principles of Sthira Sukham (finding the balance between strength or effort and ease) as well as an emphasis on postural awareness. Jackie's interest in the body also took her to India to study Yogic massage.

The morning classes will have a fluid, playful nature, incorporating some gentle sequences, flowing through postures with deep breath awareness, to invigorate the body and mind.

The evening practise will generally be more restorative and meditative. Even when the practise is challenging it will be deeply relaxing. We will also be exploring Pranayama (breathing techniques) and simple Mantra (chanting).

Jackie is known for her nurturing and supportive style that welcomes all abilities.

Yin and Vinyasa Flow Yoga with Jude Medhurst

Jude has been practising yoga and meditation for over sixteen years and has been teaching for eleven years. Over the years she has worked with, been inspired and influenced by many wonderful teachers whose knowledge and teachings have enriched her practice - Erich Schiffman, Sharon Gannon and David Life, Shiva Rea and, currently, Sarah Powers.

She completed a Teacher Training Course with the Bihar School of Yoga (Satyananda Yoga) under the direction of Swami Vedantananda and assessed by Swami Pragyamurti, the Principal of the School. This course is recognised by and is accredited with the British Wheel of Yoga.

The yoga Jude teaches is a mix of the Yin style (focusing on the gently held postures that work on the connective tissue of the hips, pelvis and lower spine) and the stronger Yang practise that emphasizes muscular movement and contraction.

The combining of the two helps to create a balanced practice "on the mat" which can be helpful in balancing our life "off the mat". There is much emphasis on the flow of the breath and how we allow the breath to be the initiator for the movement of the body.

The sessions also include pranayama, relaxation and visualisation practices plus nada yoga and meditation.

He is now based at a Dynamic yoga studio in Brighton, as well as teaching privately. On this holiday he will be teaching flowing vinyasa yoga working closely with you and creating effortless flow from posture to posture.

Also a musician he continues to develop his music career with song writing and performance and uses this passion for music and the voice as an instrument to run workshops exploring the Yoga of Sound.

Freestyle Yoga with Mitch

Mitch is an exciting and inspirational international Yoga Alliance teacher, who has been practising yoga for many years and has studied many styles of yoga.  He teaches classes in Winchester and annually holds yoga holidays to Egypt, Spain, Turkey.

His classes are designed for all levels from those new to yoga to the experienced and are based on classical Hatha incorporating a fusion of other yoga styles to suit everyone.

There is particular emphasise on warming up and stretching techniques to ensure no injuries occur and optimum strength and flexibility can be achieved. Mitch uses his intuitive sense of his own body, and those of his students in the class to dictate the pace, postures and type of practise used within any one class.

Mitch has a particular interest in encouraging men to try yoga and as a 6'6" ex rugby player himself can amply demonstrate what yoga has to offer them.

Over the week he will offer a morning two hour invigorating class and a shorter relaxing and rejuvenating evening class incorporating breathing techniques, meditation and work on opening up the chakras.

A sense of fun combined with a thoughtful practise will ensure that everyone feels at ease and have a great time.

Lauren Manning, Vinyasa Flow Yoga

Lauren has been practicing Yoga for 16 years and teaching for 14 of them. Originally from South Africa, she now spends her time travelling and teaching around the world - mainly in India, Turkey, UK and now Egypt. When asked what ‘style’ of Yoga she teaches, she uses the phrase 'Gentle Vinyasa Flow'. It is an eclectic combination of a number of different styles. She takes her influence from several approaches that have touched her, as well as from her own personal journey ‘on the mat’.

Initially a Sivananda trained teacher (California 1996), she has also explored, studied and taught Astanga Vinyasa, and appreciates the strengthening aspect of this powerful approach. In addition, she respects the preciseness of Iyengar, the gentleness and fluidity of Scaravelli and the softness and surrender of Yin Yoga.

Combining all these gems, her classes tend to flow – students move from one posture to another – starting gently and gradually building up momentum and energy, and then towards the end of the session, slowing down again in preparation for relaxation and the releasing of energy (on all levels: physical, mental, emotional) that comes about from the practice. Students usually feel both relaxed and energised after a class.
